Thin-film solvent-based intumescent coatings have been used for the passive fire protection of structural steel since the 1970s and millions of square metres of steel have been protected in this way.

International Fire Consultants (IFC) has recently announced the development of a 3D Interpolation method of assessment for the characterisation of intumescent coatings, which, according to the firm, will help in the protection of structural steelwork against fire. The method was developed by Hans van de Weijgert, a principal engineer at IFC.

Leading Saudi Arabia-based paints manufacturer Raghadan has recently launched two new decorative finishes to its existing product line, which it says will help meet the growing demand for new finishes in the highly competitive market segment. The new products include Raghadan Velvet Paint and the Raghadan Atoshinto Paint.

The Dubai office of Jotun Paints, a leading producer and supplier of paints, coatings and powder coatings, has recently secured a Dh25 million ($6.8 million) contract to supply high-quality paints and coatings for Nakheel’s  Discovery Gardens project in Dubai.
