ALFANAR Construction has won contracts worth SR363 million ($97 million) for the construction of substations at Jizan Economic City and King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia. The contracts include construction of a 380/132/13.8-kV substation for Jizan Economic City, and a 132/13.
QATAR Entertainment City (QEC) has awarded a QR100-million ($27.4 million) contract to HBK Contracting (Hamad bin Khalid Companies) to complete the project’s second phase within 18 months. Phase Two of the project includes the construction of roads, sewage network, water systems, and the main irrigation system.
BAHRAIN is seeking $1.3 billion from regional financing agencies to upgrade the Gulf state’s power and water network over the next 10 years. “We’re seeking soft loans from funding agencies within the region,” said an official at Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority.
SAUDI Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) and Mitsubishi Rayon Company (MRC) are to set up a $1-billion petrochemical plant in the kingdom under a 50-50 joint venture. The agreement was signed by Sabic vice president of corporate finance and chief financial officer Mutlaq Al-Morished and MRC president Masanao Kambarar.
SAUDI Arabia said a SR6.5-billion ($1.73 billion) monorail linking Makkah with the holy sites of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah in the kingdom will be ready for use by pilgrims for next year’s Haj. Work on the project began earlier this year, and the rail will be ready for use to 35 per cent of its capacity during the next Haj season.
