A VISIT to Yas Island reveals it all. Abu Dhabi is buzzing with construction activity as the emirate gears to host its first-ever Formula 1 race this November.






TWO of the tallest buildings in the Gate District on Reem Island – the Sun and Sky Towers – have been topped out 100 days ahead of schedule, according to the project developer Sorouh Real Estate.






ANOTHER project being developed by Sorouh Real Estate is the Golf Gardens, a luxury residential community with 395 villas and townhouses located next to Abu Dhabi Golf Club. The project is just a 10-minute drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport and a 15-minute drive from the heart of thecity.






SIGNIFICANT progress has been made on the Dh3 billion ($817 million) Bawabat Al Sharq project currently under construction in Bani Yas city, one of the main suburban regions of Abu Dhabi.






NATIONAL Projects and Construction (NPC), one of the leading Abu Dhabi-based construction companies, says its projects on Marina Square – the first development to be launched on Reem Island – are on course for completion by the year-end.






NATIONAL Projects and Con-struction is also engaged on the Dh1.6 billion ($436 million) National Towers coming up on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche. The project, being implemented in joint venture with Arabtec, is a twin-tower residential and commercial development that also includes a hotel.






ABU DHABI expects to merit an entry in the Guinness World Records next year for being home to the world’s most inclined high-rise. This is when the iconic Capital Gate, now taking shape adjacent to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), will see final completion.

BATHROOM manufacturer Duravit is installing more than 1,370 individual world-class products – ranging from wall-mounted WCs to towel holders – in the sanitary areas of the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This includes everything from the common areas to the VIP facilities.






AS the battle for the 2009 Formula 1 world championship title rages and the winners of the first races are toasted, pavers and rollers from German contractor Bickhardt-Bau are in a race of their own to provide a perfect pavement both on the new Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, and throughout the entire gigantic peripheral area.






TEN Liebherr 130 EC-B 6 Flat-Top cranes – purpose-ordered by main contractor Aldar-Besix Construct JV – are playing a key craneage role on Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari Experience project, construction of which is well in progress.






UNIVERSAL Paint and Chemical Industries (Chemipaint) continues to boost its portfolio of prominent projects in the region, with the most recent addition being the prestigious Abu Dhabi Exhibition Centre (Adnec). The company recently completed the flooring for parking areas A and B, new lounges and the main Adnec building.
