MARAFIQ, Saudi Arabia’s privately-run power and water utility company for Jubail and Yanbu, has invited bids from international companies for the construction of a $1.5-billion, 850-MW thermal power plant at Yanbu, along Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. Companies from Europe, the US, South Korea and Saudi will be invited to bid for the contract.

Sugar factory work gathers paceWORK on a BD56.7-million ($150 million) sugar factory in Bahrain is gathering pace. Arabian Sugar Company (ASC), which is building the plant, has made steady progress in completing the project’s foundation work. It is expected that the factory will be in production by the fourth quarter of next year.
