Leading architects BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), Foster + Partners, and Grimshaw Architects have won a contest to design theme pavilions for Dubai Expo 2020. Thirteen leading architectural firms took part in the competition, launched by Emaar Properties on behalf of Expo 2020.






Dubai developer Omniyat has appointed Australia-headquartered Brookfield Multiplex as the main contractor for a Dh2-billion ($544 million) luxury tower on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah island. The 23-storey One at Palm Jumeirah aims for a Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver rating.






The UAE government has approved funds worth Dh7 billion ($2 billion) for infrastructure development in the Northern Emirates. The projects include approvals for housing aid, the building of new residential complexes, roads, schools, health centres and government buildings, the Wam news agency reported.

Aldar inks mall revamp contract Abu Dhabi’s Aldar Properties has awarded a Dh318-million ($86.5 million) contract to refurbish and expand Al Jimi Mall to Pivot Construction. The project will add an additional retail space of 33,000 sq m, bringing the total to 76,000 sq m.






Arabtec has won a Dh1.7-billion ($462.85 million) contract from the UAE federal government to build 1,100 houses for Emirati nationals in the Northern Emirate of Fujairah. Arabtec, 36-per cent owned by Abu Dhabi state fund Aabar Investments, said construction would begin immediately and is expected to take about two-and-a-half years.
