New giants aim to be gentle on environment

01 October 2008

As part of their continuing new product development programmes, Terex Pegson and Powerscreen launched four new track-mounted crushing and screening products at Steinexpo held last month (September 3 to 6) in Homberg, Germany,  for the quarrying, mining and recycling industries.

These comprised the Terex Pegson’s XH250 horizontal shaft impactor plant, the XA400S and XR400S jaw crushers, the XV350 vertical shaft impactor plant and the Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X Bivitec incline screening plant.
These products have been developed with detailed input from Terex Pegson and Powerscreen clients and distributors, resulting in such features as under pan feeders, excellent under crusher access with hydraulic raise and lower conveyors and the ability to handle rebar effectively, according to Andrew Dakin, strategic marketing director.
“Our plants are designed to minimise environmental impact with low running costs and save on the inefficient transport of material across and between different sites,” says Dakin.  “We’ve recently tested an XA400 against an equivalent competitor machine and found you can save up to 33 per cent on fuel costs – which is pretty impressive in today’s climate.”
Also included in the extensive display at Steinexpo were the Terex Pegson 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher, the Powerscreen Warrior 1400 heavy-duty inclined screen and H5163 horizontal screening plant.

XH250
The Terex Pegson XH250 impactor is suitable for compact primary and secondary applications and has been designed to cope with tough recycling projects. It has been equipped with an under crusher vibrating pan feeder to prevent any impact damage to the product conveyor. The crusher’s direct drive system reduces running costs and downtime.
The main conveyor can be hydraulically raised and lowered to aid under-crusher access and simplify the removal of rebar. The conveyor is fully tunnelled with minimal snag areas.
“The new crusher design incorporates latest design technology with hydraulic overload protection and automatic reset of the twin aprons. The rotor is a four bar design and can be used with four full or two full and two half bars. Crushing speed can be tailored to the application directly through the control panel,” he explains.

XV350
The Terex Pegson XV350 vertical shaft impactor has been designed to accept a range of crushing configurations to ensure that it is both versatile and suitable for the needs of the customer. It can be used in either open or closed-circuit arrangements, and offers both excellent particle shape and high consistency of product yield.
“It is an ideal machine where high product specification is required and is also an excellent producer of manufactured sand,” Dakin comments.

XA400S and XR400S
The Terex Pegson XA400S primary jaw crusher has a highly powerful crushing action with hydraulic crusher setting adjustment. The high-swing jaw eases material entry into the crushing chamber and the hydraulic adjustment enables the crusher setting to be quickly and easily changed. The adjustment is activated without the need to release the draw-back mechanism and this system is particularly suitable for applications where frequent jaw setting adjustments are required, he points out. The XR400S version of the machine has a hydraulic release system to allow clearance of uncrushable objects through the jaw without damage.

2100X Bivitec
“The Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X Bivitec has all the benefits of a Chieftain 2100X, plus it is fitted with a high-frequency double-deck screen box suitable for fine separation of moist, difficult materials such as clay, mud and soil,” he says. “The individually adjustable vibration parameters eliminate screen ‘blinding’, making it ideal for difficult screening tasks in all weather conditions.”

1000 Maxtrak

The high-performance Terex Pegson 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher has been designed for direct feed applications, without pre-screening on most applications. At the heart of the Maxtrak is the Automax cone crusher with hydraulic setting, tramp release and unblocking system.
Says Dakin: “Its unique crushing action produces high-quality aggregate and sub-base material. Available with a choice of four liners and two "eccentric" throws, it will give excellent capacity, high reduction and good product shape.
“The Terex Pegson 1000 Maxtrak plants are fitted with a feed hopper that enables the Automax to be continually choke fed. This is essential for cone crushers to maximise the reduction as well as for optimal product shape. A level probe over the feed ring regulates the feed belt to ensure the Automax is perfectly fed.”

H5163
The Powerscreen H5163 has an elliptical screen motion providing high efficiency without the pegging associated with traditional flat screens. The mechanism can be easily adjusted to suit the material being separated.
The plant is ideal for natural and crushed aggregate, coal, iron ore, overburden, recycled concrete and asphalt applications and the vigorous screen motion produces four very clean end products, suitable for high-specification contracts.
Available in two models, the standard which has the oversize material going in a forward motion and discharging on the tail conveyor and a re-circulating model which allows the oversize material to be discharged out on the side conveyor.

Powerscreen Warrior 1400
The Powerscreen Warrior 1400 is a high-capacity, heavy-duty machine that is capable of screening out large and difficult materials into three individual stockpiles. The Warrior has many operator friendly features, for example the screen box can hydraulically lift up so it is easy for operators to change and clean meshes and vulcanise belts.
“The high-strength, high amplitude, two-bearing screenbox and large hopper exit opening allow easy handling and separation of large items from material fines in recycling tasks, such as soils from tree stumps and logs, fines and rock from overburden and blasted rock,” he adds.
Terex Pegson and Powerscreen – part of Terex Corporation – are renowned for producing high-performance crushers and screening, washing and recycling products, respectively, which are suitable for quarries, recycling and contractors.
With more than 100 dealers worldwide, Terex Pegson and Powerscreen offers a full range of mobile crushing, screening and washing equipment.
