BAUER International, the Abu Dhabi branch of Bauer Spezialtiefbau of Germany, has recently completed the advanced works and enabling works for the Nation Towers, which is expected to be a striking landmark on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The mixed-use development consists of a high-rise development with underground car-parking, serviced with all mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations.
Outlining Bauer’s scope of works on the project, a company spokesman says: “The advanced works entailed site hoarding, signboards, site offices, truck washing machines, diversion of services crossing the site such as waterlines, sewerage, irrigation pipelines, removal of trees and landscaping, removal of existing structures such as irrigation pumps and substructures.
“Our scope on the enabling works involved design and construction 805 m of secant pile wall with tieback anchors, excavation up to -11.50 m below NGL (natural grade line), installation and operation of a dewatering system to maintain a dry platform to 1.5 m below the formation level and installation of 1,266 of bored cast-in-situ piles of various diameters – including 600 mm, 900 mm, 1,200 mm and 1,500 mm – to a depth ranging from 15.0 m to 40.0 m.”
Bauer started work on the project in June 2007. The shoring works, excavation, and dewatering were completed by December 2007 and the piling works and testing by December last year,” he adds.
The $650 million development includes two skyscrapers: a 65-storey hotel tower and a 52-storey residential tower. A retail podium fronts the Abu Dhabi Corniche while a tunnel crossing under the Corniche Road links the development with a Beach Club. The total built-up area of the project is approximately 295,000 sq m. The project developer is International Capital Trading and the consultant is KEO International while the project manager is Hill International.
