Hawa caters to large wood partitions

The innovative Hawa-Motus system can connect 20 door elements of up to 150 kg each, making it ideal for use in offices, banks, clinics, retirement homes and shopping centres.

SWITZERLAND-based hardware specialist Hawa, whose innovative systems effortlessly operate large, elegant sliding wall systems around the globe, has launched yet another product designed for large partition walls made of wood.

The latest automated sliding hardware system – Hawa-Motus 150/H-matic – was premiered at Bau 2009, an international trade fair for architecture, materials, systems exhibition held in Munich, Germany, early this year.
The system can connect 20 mobile door elements weighing up to 150 kg each to form a partitioning system of up to 30 m in width, according to a spokeswoman for the company.
“It is also possible to connect two systems together – an impressive solution offering extensive freedom of design,” she adds.
“Generously-dimensioned door elements grant designers and installers every possible freedom to create new, customised and flexible interior design solutions. Maximum dimensions range from 850 to 1,500 mm in width and up to 3,500 mm in height.
“The sliding hardware system enables interesting architectural solutions in representative residential houses and villas. Partition walls powered by Hawa-Motus 150/H-matic in office and administrative buildings, in banks, clinics, care and retirement homes and shopping centres put on a convincing performance from end to end,” she says.
The system is suited for discerning residential and commercial designs, much the same as its sister model that was launched two years ago, the Hawa-Motus 150/GV-matic for sliding glass doors.

Operation
Elaborating on the operation and the benefits of the system, the spokeswoman says: “The outstanding running characteristics so typical of Hawa combine with the system’s automation to guarantee a high level of convenience: its doors open and close at the touch of a button. They slide easily into the parking space as if guided by an invisible hand. The space required is minimal, as each sliding element needs at the most a mere 84 mm. Panels are stackable on either side and can also be divided between the two sides – a well-thought-out control system makes it possible.
“Additionally, the first panel can be integrated into the system as a lockable pivot door or as an automatically locking sliding door. Both options provide single door opening to enable swift access without having to open the entire sliding wall. “Ease of installation is another benefit of the Hawa-Motus 150/H-matic system. The track system is pluggable in different variations, much the same as with the glass variant. The busbar for automatic operation is simply clipped into place, even in curved sections.”
The hardware system is also available in a version for manual operation. Upgrading the system to automatic operation is easily possible at any time, requiring no retrospective cut-outs.

Drive systems
The drive system is in full compliance with CE standards and forms a compact, wireless unit together with the trolley and current collector – a simple, reliable and proven solution, she points out. “The drive unit is invisibly integrated in the top track, making covers unnecessary. Pivot door operators, electric locks and actuators can be connected directly to the main control unit,” says the spokeswoman.
Another advantage includes its user-friendliness and safety in operation. “This new system is extremely easy to programme and commission, thanks to menu-driven controls. Complicated data input, for instance to address individual doors, is unnecessary, she says. “Safety issues always play a major role in the operation of heavy sliding partition systems. Hawa's developers have, therefore, configured the tried-and-tested drive unit to stop the sliding elements in their tracks as soon as they encounter an obstacle – it is therefore impossible for anyone or anything to become caught up in the system.”
The system memorises three basic states of open, closed and locked. Thus, system operability is automatically restored immediately after a power failure. Hawa-Motus 150/H-matic is a versatile and reliable addition to the Hawa range of hardware that are in efficient operation in shopping centres and banks, clinics and offices, airports and stations worldwide.
