New plant to produce HDPE pipes

01 January 2010

BAHRAIN Pipes is on the expansion path and expects to see the completion next month (February) of its new 6,000-sq-m production plant, which will expand its capacity for pipes and fittings.

The new facility will be fitted with new machines of different capacities in order to introduce new products that cater to the market needs. It will go into operation in August and will produce high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polyethylene and other big diameter pipes.
“We are ready to introduce new products, such as PVC Schedule 40 fittings, which we have started producing, and large-diameter pipes such as HDPE, pressure and gravity pipes,” says Mohammad Abu Abbas, general manager. “In the coming years, we also plan to launch production of pressure pipes up to 1,200 mm in diameter, besides embarking on a joint venture with Krah Middle East to produce corrugated pipes of up to 3,500 mm in diameter.”
Bahrain Pipes is a leader in corrosion-resistant systems for water and wastewater treatment and control, specialising in PVC, uPVC, cPVC, HDPE, MDPE, LDPE pipes and fittings products for the commercial, residential and industrial sectors.
“Our raw materials are procured from leading global manufacturers of plastic engineered products. Being an ISO 9001:2000-certified pipes manufacturing company, we maintain the highest international standards of ASTM, BSEN, DIN and AS/NZS in the manufacturing of our products,” he says.
Bahrain Pipes, which offers a broad range of quality products, claims to be the only manufacturer in the Middle East of polybutene-1 hot and cold plumbing and heating systems.
Like many companies, Bahrain Pipes has also been affected by the financial downturn, and has been faced with increased competition in the market with the advent of new manufacturers. However to maintain its market share, the company has ensured that its prices are competitive, and that delivery schedules are met, says Abbas.
“We also ensured customer satisfaction by meeting all the requirements of our clients,” he adds.
Its efforts have paid off as the company registered an overall improvement in its business levels compared to previous years, according to Abbas.
Some of its major projects include King Abdul Aziz Health City in Saudi Arabia (for the Health Department for the National Guards); and the supply of HDPE pipes to the Abu Dhabi F1 racing circuit project in the UAE.
Amongst the company’s main customers in Bahrain are the ministries of housing, works and agriculture, Bahrain National Oil Company (Banoco), Central Stores Directorate, Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) and leading contractors for roads and buildings.
Regionally, it exports to the GCC countries, Egypt and are on the negotiation table with Iran and Iraq.
Established in 1996 and located at the Haji Hassan Industrial Complex in Salmabad, Bahrain Pipes is a division of the Haji Hassan Group, one of the well-known and largest groups in the region. Supported by a staff of approximately 160 people, the company has a 7,000 sq m production area for pipes and another 6,000 sq m area for fittings. It also has storage areas for finished goods and raw materials over 7,560 sq m and 5,320 sq m, respectively.
Bahrain Pipes has secured numerous international quality certifications including NSF, Saso (Saudi Arabian Standards Organisation) and Bodycote certification for pipes, WRAS, SKZ certification for fittings, and ISO 9001 certification accredited by Bureau Veritas.
