Interiors in the spotlight

01 February 2010

A mix of contemporary interior, hotel and office furniture, accessories, fabrics and lighting from leading international specialists will be in the limelight when Interiors UAE opens at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), Abu Dhabi, next month (March 29 and 31).

Among the European firms at the show will be Air Nova and Becchetti Angelo Bal of Italy, Boca do Lobo of Portugal, Spain’s Virtus 1945 and chandelier expert Faustig Kurt from Germany.

Air Nova, which specialises in the production of leather chairs for both the contract and retail markets, will bring Italian craftsmanship in the form of two new chair models — Elettra, which is decorated with Swarovski crystals and Patchwork chairs, which feature a mix of different leathers in the same colours. Air Nova recently supplied 650 Elisa leather chairs to the Dubai Mall in the Burj Khalifa District. Boca do Lobo will unveil two furniture designs: The Crochet, which is a wooden chest of drawers inspired by the traditional craft of crochet, and Monochrome stool, featuring a fluid and unusual form moulded from fibreglass filled with expandable polyurethane.

UK exhibitors will include Yarwood Leather, one of the largest suppliers of leather to the UK furniture industry and soft furnishing and fabric designer Soul Living.

The exhibition also profiles leading local lighting experts including Swarovski’s authorised lighting partner in Dubai and Abu Dhabi – Alpha Crystal and Beacon Decor & Light.

Meanwhile Red Line Collection, based in both Pakistan and the UK, will be launching a new series of domes for the Middle East at the show. Red Links designs custom-made, hand-forged wrought iron furniture and works closely with architects and interior designers with regular commissions to create skylights, gates, railings, doors, panels and facade components for both interior and exterior use.

The show will also feature sessions focusing on colours and trends for the interior design sector in 2012. This event, hosted by Global Color Research, will be in addition to a seminar programme.

In conjunction with the show, the renowned Inchbald Institute is conducting a design competition for interior and landscape design students in Abu Dhabi.
