Hexaport and Ortolan steeled for growth

01 February 2010

Hexaport has partnered with Ortolan Group of Italy, a reputed international steel manufacturer and contractor, to establish Ortolan Hexaport which is currently pursuing projects in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Libya, Pakistan, Mauritius and Nigeria.

These projects are expected to benefit from Hexaport’s eco-friendly, cost-effective and safe construction solutions.

Hexaport’s systems are based on the LGS (light gauge galvanised steel) technology, which are developed for both single and multi-storey buildings that benefit from durable and eco-friendly building capabilities. “They are ideal for ‘fast track’ construction in a wide range of weather conditions and geographical locations. This patented technology and the range of LGS products that are available offer solutions that guarantee safe, green and rapid completion of residential or commercial projects, reducing construction periods by more than five per cent at very competitive costs when compared with conventional building techniques commonly used in the Middle East,” says a spokesman for Ortolan Hexaport.

Advanced technology has enhanced the use of steel, a commonly accepted material used in the construction industry to build all types of facilities. Manufactured LGS products have revolutionised the construction industry and have been available for many years in the developed world, he says. “Their numerous advantages are: achieving greater speed of construction, reducing the requirement of regular building commodities that are traditionally used; saving more energy for both owners and occupants; putting less load on power supplies; and helping use installed power capacity better when adopted on a large scale,” the spokesman adds.

LGS technology is a product of a collaboration between Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and AutoCAD to identify and devise a durable eco-friendly building system suitable for rapid construction and its products have now been gaining wider acceptance from consultants, architects, developers and contractors, as well as owners and buyers.

Hexaport was established in 1983 and offers products under the trademarked names of Hexaport Building System (HBS), International Building System (IBS) and Green Steel Homes (GSH) based on its patented products including Strong Stud, Strong Truss and Strong Panel. Hexaport International’s manufacturing capabilities are supported by a technical services department that assists clients, architects and developers in all phases of a project.

“Hexaport Building Systems are strong enough to withstand wind speeds of up to 180 mph and can be designed to meet fire resistance as well as seismic endurance for projects located in earthquake zones. The systems can be used for one storey homes and buildings of up to seven or eight storeys, without additional structural support, relying purely on the inherent qualities of the system design. In applications that are for taller buildings and those with complex design requirements, the Hexaport system can accommodate and incorporate structural steel and or concrete construction when required,” he concludes.
