Citterio throws new ideas into the mix

01 April 2010

THE Axor Citterio, which bears the hallmarks of sophisticated private bathrooms and upmarket interiors, has been taken a step further with a new interpretation and the creation of a new type of mixers aimed at optimising the comfort zone of the wash basin area.

In addition, the shower section of this bathroom collection has been expanded with an overhead showerhead of robust design and an outstanding finish. This, together with Axor Citterio shower pipe, makes up a fully pre-assembled surface-mount shower system.

Axor Citterio is the first bathroom collection created by the renowned Italy-based architect and designer Antonio Citterio in collaboration with Axor, the designer brand of Hansgrohe.
While introducing product innovations, Citterio has broken new ground in bathroom design with the further development of this spatial concept that was introduced in 2003, which segmented the bathroom into a well-being and a functional zone.
Through the use of high-quality materials and comfortable furniture and accessories, he creates zones dedicated to regeneration and relaxation, faced by – literally – functional areas such as the shower or toilet, according to a spokesman for Hansgrohe.
Citterio’s concept of an ‘ideal bathroom’ is represented in the contemporary and timeless luxury of the Axor Citterio spatial concept and design. The Italian architect now presents an advanced interpretation of his segmentation concept in his new version of the Axor Citterio bathroom design.

This essentially features an enclosed area in the centre of the room accommodating the toilet, with the wash basin, shower and bathtub placed along the outside wall. This central ‘room within a room’ is also the element linking the two areas dedicated to sleep and hygiene, because even with this clear separation, Citterio’s design results in a comfortable and a spacious environment where bathroom and bedroom blend harmoniously, says the spokesman.
“In this way, Citterio once again shows us how these two formerly separate rooms can increasingly grow into one functional, aesthetically-pleasing unit that turns the bathroom into a fundamental part of modern living,” says Philippe Grohe, Axor brand director. “By featuring a large window front in his wellbeing bathroom and the deliberate placement of his accentuated sources of light, he has given the bathroom a very comfortable, inviting atmosphere.”
Exciting contrasts are created by the interplay of black and white marble and natural timber flooring, as well as by combining a round mirror with the straight lines of the wash stand base. In doing so, Citterio deliberately highlights the wash basin area, echoing the design of the products and carrying it through consistently in the exciting combinations of straight lines and flowing shapes, angular and rounded elements.
Citterio has also designed the new Axor Citterio single-lever wash basin mixer with its generous height of 180 mm and easily adjustable jet angle using the flush integrated jet shaping unit. He combines the classic tall mixer spout of the successful three-hole mixer with a contemporary joystick handle protruding sideways, forming a characteristic design element.
The designer’s aim to combine functionality and aesthetics is also evident in the new Axor Citterio overhead shower. The small, unobtrusive showerhead has a lateral adjustment handle that is located in a prominent position and allows direct and easy adjustment of the different types of jets. The shower features a powerful, revitalising jet, which is aimed directly at the body, thanks to the oblique angle of the shower arm.
