THE Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) is seeking to enhance wood trade between Malaysia and the UAE, given the country’s efforts to establish itself as a trade and service hub in the region.
Malaysia produces a diverse range of wood products, from sawn timber to semi-finished items such as quality flooring, doors, decking, mouldings, staircases, and other joinery timber products and furniture.
Despite the strong partnership, the economic downturn had taken a toll on the volume of Malaysian timber exports to the UAE, last year. However, total export of timber products stood at MYR598.64 million ($186 million).
“MTC is striving to raise the profile of the timber industry globally by promoting Malaysia as a holistic and efficient one-stop sourcing centre,” says Khairul Anwar, director, MTC.
MTC, which promotes the development of Malaysia’s timber industry with a special focus on the marketing of its locally-made timber products, was at the Dubai WoodShow held at Dubai Airport Expo last month as part of efforts to further expand and diversify international trade.
