BUILDING on its reputation of being a leader in high-quality cutting tools and superior standards of customer service, Dormer has grouped its high-performance drilling, milling and threading ranges into two productivity classes to enable quick and easy customer identification of the optimum tool.
These will be named Elect and Spectrum, with Elect representing top performance in particular materials and specific applications, and Spectrum representing versatility over a multitude of materials and defined operations.
New products from both classes will feature in Dormer’s forthcoming D.Pack product programme. The first of these involves several additions to Dormer’s solid carbide “one-hit” deep hole drilling programme. Branded Elect APP, the R572 (15-mm diameter), R573 (20) and R575 (30) will be added to the existing R570 (8) and R571 (12).
“All drills feature advanced chip management flute geometry and Super-Flow surface treatment,” says a company spokesman. “These two elements ensure consistent forces throughout the drilling cycle with little or no increase in torque generated. The end result is a tool that can run faster, for longer.”

The R575 is capable of drilling up to 30-mm-diameter holes without pecking. |
The second launch involves a significant expansion to Dormer’s range of highly versatile Spectrum multi-material taps. Both thread-cutting and thread-forming taps are now available in a wide variety of thread-forms, substrates and coatings.
The Spectrum thread-cutting taps provide increased wear resistance through an optimum combination of material and geometry that ensures low material adhesion.
The thread profile of the Spectrum forming taps generates low torque for longer tool life and excellent surface finish, whilst the highly stable design reduces the risk of tap breakage, the spokesman adds.
Part of the Sandvik Group, Dormer has a history dating back to 1889. The company is a global operator with sales units in more than 40 countries covering 100 markets. Its expertise lies in the manufacture of superior quality cutting tools – primarily drills, reamers, taps and milling cutters – in solid carbide and high-speed steel.
