Carpet keeps the air cleaner

01 October 2010

DESSO has launched a next-generation carpet that helps clean indoor air. Targeted at offices, hospitals, schools and other public buildings, the AirMaster is a significant step forward in improving interior air quality, and will be welcomed throughout the region, says Andre Dulka, regional manager for Desso Mena (Middle East and North Africa) region.
The fact that the carpet reduces the incidence of potentially harmful allergy-producing particles by safely trapping and immobilising them, guarantees a significant improvement in indoor air quality, and therefore reduces the risk of health-related problems. The carpet is based on patented technology and is specially designed to trap a higher percentage of dust particles than conventional carpet, and significantly more than hard flooring.

Independent tests also found that AirMaster released 80 per cent of trapped dust during vacuum cleaning – a 16 per cent improvement compared to standard carpet – and, therefore better able to restore its dust-trapping capability, Dulka says.

The carpet is certified with a gold logo from GUI, the independent German test institute, which specialises in assessing air quality, dampness and dust particle count.

The Gold logo is only awarded when dust retention efficiency exceeds 80 per cent. The test used particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 10 mm (PM10 and smaller), a particle size that the Wold Health Organization (WHO) warns can penetrate deep into the lungs and which appear to have the greatest health-damaging potential, says Desso.
