Norton Rose expands

01 August 2011

NORTON Rose Group has marked an expansion and now includes two additional leading law firms – Ogilvy Renault of Canada and Deneys Reitz of South Africa.

Thus Ogilvy Renault has become Norton Rose OR LLP and Deneys Reitz as Norton Rose South Africa (incorporated as Deneys Reitz).

Norton Rose is recognised for its strength in five key sectors: financial institutions; energy; infrastructure, mining and commodities; transport; and technology and innovation. With the expansion, the group now also offers a sixth sector strength in pharmaceuticals and life sciences, headed by Toronto-based partner Patrick Kierans.

The expansion opens up access to Canada and South Africa, which are both increasingly influential economies for the group’s clients. In particular, there are significant business synergies between Canada, South Africa and the rest of the group in the areas of mining and natural resources, infrastructure, energy, financial institutions and insurance. Integrating these geographies and industry strengths with the group’s existing capability in Europe, the Middle East and particularly Asia Pacific offers compelling opportunities for clients.

Group chief executive Peter Martyr comments: “The expansion of the group is a major step towards fulfilling our strategic aim of becoming one of the leading global providers of legal services. Our actions as an industry forerunner, particularly in Australia and Canada, and our unmatched market position in Africa, have propelled the enlarged group into the world’s top 10 largest international legal practices and open new career opportunities for all our people.”
