Six consortia bid for airport terminal

01 December 2011

ABU DHABI International Airport’s Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) project has received bids from six consortia, according to a local press report.

The $3.2-billion project is a part of the airport’s Dh25-billion ($6.8 billion) redevelopment plan, the Gulf News newspaper reported.

The consortia that have submitted the bids include Al Habtoor-Murray & Roberts, Bechtel-Al Jaber, Hyundai Engineering & Construction-Kumho, Larsen & Toubro-NPC, Samsung-ACC and TAV-CCC.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) expects to complete the 700,000-sq-m terminal building in the first half of 2017, enabling it to initially handle 27 to 30 million passengers per year.

Construction of the new terminal is planned to begin in the second quarter of 2012 to become the future home of Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE.

The MTC will cater to the airport’s passenger growth and support Plan Abu Dhabi 2030.

The design and engineering of the building has undergone a rigorous peer review with six world-leading airports and consultation involving the stakeholders. These reviews resulted in generating a complete design as well as a detailed and comprehensive tender package that provides for the timely and efficient execution of the project.

The main terminal will be one of the region’s most architecturally impressive structures.
