CARRIER continues to advance sustainability education with the third in the series of Distinguished Sustainability Lectures in the Middle East, scheduled to be held in the UAE this month.
A world leader in heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions and a part of United Technologies Corp, Carrier launched this initiative in April with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in the UAE to present lectures delivered by international experts on green building and sustainability throughout the year.
At the second event held at HCT’s Abu Dhabi campus in October, Dr Nils Kok, assistant professor in finance and real estate at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, was the featured speaker and shared the global perspective on energy efficiency, sustainability and the implications for real estate investments with delegates.
He also provided an overview of research on the value proposition of green building certifications in the US commercial real estate market, and discussed insights into the economics of energy efficiency.
"Carrier has been a leader in the green building movement from its earliest origins. We extend this commitment to our environment by providing sustainability education worldwide through events like the Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series," said Paul Fraipont, general manager, Carrier Middle East region.
"Solutions to today’s environmental challenges require new thinking that the HCT can deliver through its sustainability curriculum. We are proud to join them in advancing green building education and providing a forum to stimulate dialogue for a greener future in the Middle East," said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Climate, controls and security systems.
"The Distinguished Lecture Series complements our mandate of offering career-oriented academic and training programmes," said Dr Tayeb Kamali, vice chancellor of the HCT. "This partnership with Carrier will help accelerate sustainability awareness, broaden our sustainable development curriculum and bring increased awareness of sustainable development principles to the region."
Meanwhile, the leading air-conditioning expert will stage its 11th Global Engineering Conference from March 18 to 20 next year, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, US. Five leading experts in green building technologies, sustainable design and engineering practices will serve as the keynote speakers.
They include:
• Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, US Green Building Council, (USGBC);
• Robert Fox, partner at Cook+Fox Architects, a firm devoted to creating environmentally responsible high-performance buildings;
• Scott Frank, a Leed-accredited professional and partner at the global engineering firm of Jaros, Baum & Bolles (JB&B) Consulting Engineers;
• David Gottfried, managing partner at Regenerative Ventures, a company focused on creating collaborative green building marketplaces; and
• Valentine Lehr, senior partner of Lehr Consultants Internation-al, which is noted for innovation in high-rise construction, hotel design and master planning of complex projects.
