ZAMIL Steel of Saudi Arabia this year (2012) celebrates 35 years of service and commitment to the steel building industry even as the company continues to enhance its status as a premier steel building company in the world.

The steel giant, which started as a local company in 1977 in Dammam, has grown into a multinational global leader in the steel building industry. The company’s product portfolio has expanded to include design, manufacturing, and supply of pre-engineered steel structures, conventional steel structures, process equipment, transmission and communication towers, open web steel joists, sandwich panels and the most recent prefabricated houses.

With 10 full-size factories across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Vietnam and India, the company has been able to serve its local and international clients in a variety of sectors such as heavy and light industries, commercial, and residential, amongst others.

Its plant in Dammam, located on a 74,000-sq-m site, is claimed to be the world’s largest pre-engineered building (PEB) manufacturing facility with a production capacity of 400,000 sq m of PEBs per month.

Over the years, Zamil Steel has grown from a local-oriented single division company into a multi-division giant engaging in the engineering, fabrication and manufacturing of the various steel products. Its divisions are:

A urea plant for Toyo Japan in Venezuela ... a Zamil project.

Pre-engineered buildings (PEB);

Structural steel division (SSD);

Canam Asia (CAL);

Process equipment division (PED);

Building component solutions (BCOMS);

Towers and galvanising (T&G); and

Pre-fabricated HouseZ (PFH).

Backed by the experience gained from over 60,000 projects executed in more than 90 countries, Zamil Steel has progressed significantly from a well-respected regional player into a reputed global leader in the steel design and manufacturing industry and the company continues to grow with each passing year.

George Kobrossy, director corporate marketing and business development, says the company continues its quest for opportunities to enter new markets through a direct presence or through its affiliates.

Zamil Steel’s sales and liaison offices are distributed in 65 locations in 36 countries including in Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia); Kuwait City (Kuwait); Manama (Bahrain); Doha (Qatar); Dubai and Abu Dhabi (UAE); Muscat (Oman); Sana’a (Yemen); Amman (Jordan); Damascus (Syria); Baghdad (Iraq); and others in Europe and Asia. It has a network of 52 certified builders in 24 countries.

With its huge resources committed to managing the various requirements of the steel manufacturing business, complemented by the best facilities to support its activities, the company is well placed to supply its steel buildings to progressive markets such as Asia, India, Africa and Europe, as well as establish its presence in newly emerging markets like South America, he says.

“This is validated with the fact that the company is always the preferred choice by big industry players domestically and internationally for their projects such as GE with its power plant project in Qatar, Sumitomo warehouse and factory in Jeddah and with projects like a urea plant for Toyo Japan in Venezuela,” says Kobrossy.

With a commitment to excellence in all standards in the steel building industry and a customer-centric philosophy in all its undertakings, it is not surprising that Zamil Steel even after 35 years of existence continues to be the preferred choice in the steel building industry, he says.
