GLOBAL built asset consultancy EC Harris has won a key contract in the development of the next phase of Hamad Medical City (HMC) in Doha, Qatar.
The region’s largest-ever healthcare facility and one of the biggest complexes to be built across the world, the Hamad Medical City was launched in 2003 as part of the Asiad Village utilised by athletes of the 15th Asian Games hosted by Qatar in 2006.
Developer Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has awarded the contract running for at least two years to EC Harris, which has already begun work on this extensive project.
The new phase will involve four new completed facilities, including a medicine and rehabilitation hospital, an ambulatory and surgical centre, a women’s hospital and a teaching and research complex, which will cover a combined area of 25,000 sq m.
Based in the heart of Doha, the new buildings will be situated adjacent to the existing Hamad hospitals and HMC residential accommodation.
EC Harris will provide project and programme management, design management and workforce planning services for the new complex utilising expertise and experience gained in the delivery of many of the world’s largest hospital complexes. The firm will be responsible for overall leadership and co-ordination of the project, inputting on areas ranging from the completion of design drawings through to assessing the number of staff that will be required once the project is complete.
This integrated approach will allow HMC to concentrate on delivering outstanding patient experience and moving forward their extensive healthcare plans for Qatar.
Conor Ellis, global account leader at EC Harris, said: “The latest development of Hamad Medical City will not only facilitate clinical and research developments but also help Qatar in its efforts to recruit and retain the best available staff.”
