List of firms qualified to bid for port approved

01 February 2000

Oman's Tender Board has approved a shortlist of companies prequalified to bid for berths and civil works for a new port and fishing harbour in Sohar.

The port will now cost 40 per cent less than the earlier announced RO96 million ($250 million), said a project official. This is because bids for the project had been lower than expected, he explained. South Korea's Daewoo Corporation is building a breakwater for the new port and Hyundai Engineering won the dredging and reclamation contract.
