END-to-end infrared beam smoke detectors from Fire Fighting Enterprises have recently been installed at Dubai International Airport’s new A380 concourse.
The recently-opened Concourse A has had 265 Fireray end-to-end infrared beam smoke detectors installed as part of its fire protection system. The units were supplied by Juma Al Majid, local agent for the products.
“Fireray’s ability to detect smoke over a 100-m path between the transmitter and receiver heads, coupled with its minimalist visual impact and easy installation made it an ideal choice to protect the state-of-the-art facility,” says a spokesman for Fire Fighting Enterprises, one of the largest independent manufacturers of infrared optical beam smoke detectors and a leading manufacturer of fire extinguishers for the aviation market.
The first Fireray products were installed in the airport 15 years ago, and have suited the environment and served their purpose so well that they have been specified again and again for refits, renovations and new additional developments, he adds.
There are now a total of 860 Fireray products installed throughout the airport’s four terminals, which feature exactly the kind of large, high-ceilinged indoor areas that the range is designed to protect.
The new concourse is the first in the world built to accommodate the giant Airbus A380, resulting in a public space of exceptional size: 528,000 sq m spread across 11 floors, and a capacity to handle 15 million passengers a year. The lounges span the entire length of the concourse, making them the largest in the world, and feature high ceilings, sweeping architectural design and modern aesthetics throughout.
