SAUDI Preinsulated Pipes Industries (SPPI), which manufactures various piping systems, is in the process of setting up automated welding machinery for the accessories used in the pre-insulated piping systems.

The Riyadh-based company manufactures pre-insulated piping system utilising spray and injection methods, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, steel fabrication, anticorrosion (FBE and 3LPE) pipe protection and the HDPE pipe extrusion.

The company has a fully automated pre-insulated pipes plant with an output of more than 200 sq m per hour and a maximum pipe size of 60 inches. The plant can also protect steel pipes from corrosion by coating them with fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) as well as 3LPE (three-layer polyethylene) insulation.

The HDPE extrusion plant has an output of more than 1,500 kg per hour and a maximum pipe size of 1,200 mm.

“The plants have very advanced and sophisticated equipment,” says a company official.

A joint venture company of Zamil Industrial, SPPI utilises the latest technology in the design and manufacture of HDPE pipes with thin and thick wall thicknesses for pressure applications, with diameters ranging from 10 to 1,200 mm; and produces 3LPE and FBE systems for transportation applications in the oil and gas sector.

Established in 1981, SPPI started production in 1983. Its manufacturing facility is located in the Second Industrial City in Riyadh, with a branch office in Zamil Industrial City in Dammam.

The company provides quality products and services to meet the needs and expectations of its customers. Its technical services department utilises computer-aided design software and electronic spreadsheets to generate all the necessary fabrication/shop drawings and technical data. The firm also provides its customers with on-site technical assistance and installation supervision.

“SPPI has in-house capability to perform stress analysis on microcomputer systems using Caesar II software. The analysis determines the stresses and movement in the piping system,” the official says.

SPPI is an ISO 9001:2008-certified company through UKAS of the UK, the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (Saso). Its clients include Saudi Aramco, Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), among others. The company has supplied its innovative products to numerous projects and clients in the kingdom as well as in the GCC and other Middle East regions.

Some of its key projects include Dubai International Airport, Jebel Ali Hotel extension, Dubai Women’s College for Higher Technology and Jumeirah Beach Resort – all in the UAE; Royal Guard of Oman, Oman; Kuwait University Shuwaikh Campus and Specialised Cardiac Centre in Kuwait; and Doha International Airport, Cultural Village phases One and Two, West Bay Complex and The Sports City in Qatar.
