Experts invited for project tours

01 August 2014

POWER and Water industry professionals are being invited to register for technical tours of three major engineering projects in Abu Dhabi, UAE, a day ahead of the 12th annual Power-Gen Middle East and WaterWorld Middle East Conferences and Exhibition.

“With so much potential for growth in the power and water sectors in the GCC and the Middle East, it is important that industry professionals are fully informed of the latest developments in the efficient design and operation of new facilities,” said Nigel Blackaby, event director of Power-Gen Middle East, which will be held from October 12 to 14 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).

Tours of Masdar City, Ansaldo Thomassen Gulf’s gas turbine repair facility, and the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP) are open to all participants, and will be held on October 11.

The first tour to be conducted by WaterWorld Middle East’s event partner Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC), and which is part of WaterWorld Middle East conference, will cover STEP – which will become one of the largest sewage systems in the world.

“This project will have the capacity for three times Abu Dhabi’s current sewage flows, giving it a planned working life of at least 80 years,” said Alan Thomson, managing director of ADSSC.

The second tour is of the world’s most sustainable eco-city, Masdar City. The city is pioneering a “greenprint” to accommodate rapid urbanisation while dramatically reducing energy, water and waste. The five-hour tour will include visits to Masdar Institute clean rooms and labs, the recycling centre, the 10 MW solar photovoltaic farm, Siemens building, Barjeel Wind Tower, and the Knowledge Centre.

The third tour covers a visit to Ansaldo Thomassen Gulf’s state-of-the-art gas turbine repair facility located in the Mussafah industrial area. The facility is part of the Ansaldo Energia Group.

For the third time, WaterWorld Middle East will be held as a co-located event with Power-Gen Middle East.

The last day to register for the technical tours is September 12.
