Hill wins courts complex deal

HILL International, global leader in managing construction risk, said it has received a contract from Emirates Real Estate Corporation (EREC) to provide project management services in connection with key government project in Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi.

EREC’s Building No 35, the Federal Courts Complex and Ministry of Justice Building will feature courtrooms, offices, theatre, gate building, service building, roads, parking facilities and other amenities.

The total built-up area of the facilities will be approximately 37,380 sq m (402,000 sq ft).

 

Cayan Tower is the ‘best tall building’

CAYAN Tower, a 306-m building developed by Cayan Real Estate Investment and Development in Dubai, has been declared the ‘Best Tall Building’ in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

The 80-storey skyscraper has been designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) architectural group, the same group which did the concept design for the Burj Khalifa also in Dubai and Trump Tower in Chicago, US. The jury selected the ‘Best Tall Building’ in the four regions of the Americas, Middle East and Africa, Europe and Asia and Australasia from 88 entries after a year-long selection process.

Cayan Tower’s dynamic twisting shape challenges conventional architecture and redefines standards of luxury, said the jury. Situated at the Dubai Marina, Cayan residential tower spirals in a smooth curve by an astonishing 90 degrees to give every apartment a stunning view of the sea or marina, it added.

 

Gilgen wins Louvre museum contract

UK-BASED Gilgen Door Systems has won a landmark £1.5-million ($2.38 million) contract to supply high-security shutters, sectional overhead doors and security grills for the new 24,000-sq-m Louvre museum at Saadiyat Island’s Cultural District in Abu Dhabi.

The contract includes the supply of SR4 security-rated shutters, which will provide high levels of physical protection and operational efficiency for Louvre Abu Dhabi.

David Cerquella, the managing director of Gilgen Door, said: “With security being a top priority for the museum, it is significant that Gilgen security shutters were chosen and further testament to the innovation, strength and quality of our Rolegard range.”

Manufactured in the UK and meeting ‘Police Preferred’ and ‘Secured by Design’ standards, Rolegard high security shutters help facilities to reduce security threats. Tested by Building Research Establishment (BRE) against anti-jacking, prising, gouging, impact, cutting and drilling, the Rolegard SR4 security shutter was the first to achieve LPS1175, Issue 7, Level 4 certification and is the only one to have passed a supplementary test for stainless steel profiles, said the company.

 

Nakheel signs up Vox Cinemas

LEADING regional developer Nakheel has signed a partnership deal with the Middle East’s leading cinema and entertainment destination – Vox Cinemas – for its upcoming mall project on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.

Occupying a two-storey, 60,000-sq-ft area at Nakheel Mall, Vox Cinemas will feature 15 theatres and provide the ultimate movie-going experience with the latest in cinema technology.

The Nakheel/Vox Cinemas partnership comes as more than half of the 100,000 sq m of retail space at Nakheel Mall is booked by a growing number of top brand names, said the developer.

 

Al Shirawi secures The 118 MEP deal

AL SHIRAWI Electrical and Mechanical Engineering has been awarded a mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract for The 118 at Downtown Dubai in Dubai.

Under the contract, Al Shirawi, a pioneer in the region for MEP contracting, will complete installation, testing and commissioning of MEP systems such as the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning), plumbing and firefighting, building management and electrical systems.

Located in the heart of Downtown Dubai and developed by Signature Estates, The 118 stands 44 storeys high, and offers a collection of 27 spacious, full-floor unfurnished residences.

 

Metito secures Tanmiyat contract

METITO, the leader and provider of choice for total intelligent water management solutions in the emerging markets, has been awarded a design-and-build wastewater treatment project by Tanmiyat Group.

The Living Legends community wastewater treatment project will be built for a new Dubai land development located along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The scope of work includes the design and build of an underground sewage treatment plant, which will have the capacity to treat 3,600 cu m per day of domestic waste.

 

ABB to set up solar project in Dubai

DUBAI Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has signed an agreement with ABB, a global leader in power and automation technologies, to develop a pilot solar power project at ABB’s premises with a grid-connected rooftop 277 kW photovoltaic (PV) system in Dubai.

The MoU was signed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of Dewa, and Carlos Poñe, ABB’s chief executive officer in the UAE. As per the deal, the pilot project at Al Quoz will connect to Dewa’s grid through a low-voltage distribution board at ABB, and will be used as a learning tool for the deployment of solar PV rooftop installations.
