Bahrain plans six museums
Six museums are among projects planned by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, its president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa said.
These include a modern arts museum, the Al Muharraqi museum and a children’s museum. Three more museums are being planned for Saar, Barbar and A’ali, it said.
The authority is also planning to build an oasis alongside the Bab Al Bahrain in Manama, a green building which will serve as the its headquarters and revamp the Khamis Mosque and the Al Hidaya Al Khalifiya School.
Marina Club overhaul to take time
A major overhaul of the Marina Club in Manama, Bahrain, will take another year for completion.
The work on the project, which is set to include a five-star hotel, apartments, waterfront villas, a shopping mall, marina and restaurants over a 150,000-sq-m property, was originally scheduled for completion by 2019. However, officials from property developers Amlak, who are spearheading the project as a subsidiary of the Social Insurance Organisation, said that they were now aiming for a completion date of 2020.
Qatar to build three central markets
The Qatar government is set to build three central markets, which will each have car-parking space, a mosque and an electricity substation, said a report.
These markets will have a bank branch, a florist shop, a grocery store and a warehouse, besides cold storage and administrative blocks and labour camps, reported The Peninsula. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce signed a contract with state-owned Manateq (Economic Zones Company) to build these markets at Al Wakra, Umm Salal and Al Sailiyah area.
Manateq has awarded contracts to three different companies. The markets are expected to be ready for operation by the middle of 2016, it added.
Infrastructure projects on track
Bahrain’s Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning is working on a string of infrastructure projects, including road revamp contracts worth BD3.85 million ($10.15 million) in the Riffa area of the kingdom, said a senior official.
The ministry is presently revamping roads in West Riffa Block 912 at a cost of BD2.5 million ($6.58 million), stated Huda Fakhro, roads assistant undersecretary and head of municipal councils co-ordination and follow-up committee.
The other projects under implementation include revamping of Abo Shaheen Avenue, Daibal Avenue and Noon Avenue at a cost of BD700,000 ($1.84 million).
Work has also begun on the upgrade of the 4.95-km-long Sheikh Ahmed bin Salman Avenue (Road 545) at a cost of BD657,000 ($1.73 million), she added.
