Control centre on way for expo

01 July 2016

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is set to start work on a new 6,996-sq-m Enterprise Command & Control Center (EC3) building to be built at a cost of Dh335 million ($91 million) ahead of Expo 2020.

The RTA announcement comes following the endorsement of the EC3 model’s design by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed issued directives for the speedy construction and the timely delivery of the structure which will be capable of providing integrated management of mobility and public transport systems required for the Expo 2020, said the RTA.

The centre, designed to be a Dubai landmark and seeking Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification, consists of a ground floor and five storeys with a total floor area of 10,900 sq m. It will help the RTA to provide integrated management of mobility and public transport systems required for mega events like the Expo 2020. The central control room covers an area of 430 sq m and rises 13 m in height. The facilities comprise office spaces, auditorium, press centre and four utility buildings, it stated.
