Qatar Foundation Stadium, one of the proposed host venues for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, has achieved the one-million-man-hours safety mark without lost time injury.
Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) is spearheading the construction of the stadium in partnership with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the body responsible for delivering the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
QF said it is implementing world-class health and safety standards as well as the QF Mandatory Standards of Migrant Workers’ Welfare all its projects.
The project contractors are United Construction Engineering (UCE) and Consolidated Contracting Company (CCC)/Teyseer, while the project and construction management team is Astad and Louis Berger.
Currently, Package Two of enabling works is under way on site on the completion of Package One. Package Two of enabling works being undertaken by CCC/Teyseer, has been split into two phases – Phase One includes additional excavation around the stadium to create the basement areas, while Phase Two includes final excavation to the base formation level. UCE was responsible for site set-up, construction of site management offices and preliminary excavation of the Qatar Foundation Stadium and Health and Wellness Precinct.
The 40,000-seat Qatar Foundation Stadium, designed by Spanish architects RFA Fenwick Iribarren, is set for completion in 2018.
