New Bomag recycler has edge in market

Bomag’s new RS 500 stabiliser/recycler can mill up to the tight margins of roads using the innovative side-shift capability of the rotor.

Bomag, a global leader in compaction, continuously adds new technology to its portfolio to maintain its leadership position.

The company has boosted its product range with a new stabiliser/recycler, RS 500, which for the first time, with the side-shift capability of its milling rotor, allows to mill up to the marginal areas of a road with wheel-based stabilisers/recyclers – thus succeeding in closing a gap in the market.

The sideways adjustable milling rotor of the RS 500, which extends beyond the wheel edge, reaches even marginal areas and the machine remains safely manoeuvrable, without the tyres having to work on unsuitable subsurface or the wheels colliding into existing road surfaces. The rotor can be moved left or right over the wheel rim. This makes it possible to mill both edges of the road without missing any areas.

The machine concept is complemented by Flexmix technology developed by Bomag, with which the material pulverisation can be adjusted steplessly. “In contrast to the global standard, the RS 500 has an adjustable flap in the rotor cover. The milling material is shredded if required by the steplessly variable crushing bar to any desired target size. In contrast to other methods, this doesn’t increase fuel consumption and the rotor wear remains very low,” says a spokesman for Bomag.

Thanks to its height-adjustable cab and compact dimensions, the RS 500 is very easy to transport. With a transport height of 3.1 m, a total width of 2.55 m, and a length of 9.5 m, the machine can be easily transported on a low loader from one construction site to the next.

Due to the central, high working position and the extensive all-round glazing of the Rops/Fops (roll over protection system/falling objects protection system) cabin, the driver has excellent 360-degree visibility even without camera systems. The new RS 500 also features Bomag’s proven rotor drive concept, where two planetary gears are driven by two hydraulic motors, allowing for easy adjustment to every construction site situation.

Among other innovations launched by Bomag is the BVP 10/30, a single direction vibratory plate with a net weight of under 50 kg, making it the lightest vibratory plate in its class. 

“It is the only vibratory plate that can be manually loaded and unloaded for transport without any equipment. Its highly flexible use makes it attractive for small jobs and in landscape gardening,” says the spokesman.

“Wherever space is limited, or small areas need to be compacted quickly and easily, the smallest member of the vibratory plate family packs a big punch: With a working width of just 30 cm, Bomag’s new BVP 10/30 can handle the tightest working and space constraints,” he says. “The machine is also distinguished by its excellent manoeuvrability in practical operation. But the real highlight is its low weight of under 50 kg, which puts all other models in the shade.”

“As the lightest of all vibratory plates, it is ready for use at once. Simply lift off the transport vehicle without any additional loading resources and off it goes. Stowing the BVP 10/30 again is just as quick,” he adds.

The BVP 10/30 described as being ideal is small-scale repair work, especially in corners or hard-to-reach spots, whether for patching asphalt or compacting stone paving. It is equally attractive for smaller craft businesses, such as landscaping, looking for a versatile vibratory plate with a lower capital tie-up.

Sales of the BVP 10/30 will begin in October 2016.

Meanwhile, Bomag has significantly reduced the hand-arm vibration (HAV) of its entire light equipment portfolio. A redesign of the controls significantly reduces the vibration load on the operator’s body. Whether for tampers, vibratory plates or walk-behind vibratory rollers, the improvement ensures extremely ergonomic machine operation. Light equipment can therefore be used for an almost unlimited time, special health instructions are unnecessary, and documentation requirements are reduced to a minimum, says the spokesman.

Bomag has also launched an app that makes it easier to monitor the status of individual construction machines or the entire fleet. Bomag Telematic is now available as a free app for PC, iOS and Android. With a mobile terminal, it is possible to monitor the fleet anywhere at any time. The app makes operating costs fully transparent and attributable 1:1 to each machine. The Bomag Telematic app makes it possible to monitor the fuel consumption, maintenance status, operating hours, location and idle time of every construction machine.
