01 July 2015

Sharjah-based Gulf Prefab Houses Factory (Gulfab), a pioneer in the field of prefabricated houses for industrial and residential requirements, recently completed a Dh24.7-million ($6.7 million) contract for Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The company’s scope of work included supply of seven staff accommodation and 13 labour accommodation units to the power plant site.

Located 50 km west of Ruwais, Barakah is the site for UAE’s first nuclear power plant. Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) awarded a coalition led by Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) a $20-billion deal to build the plant in 2009.

Gulf Prefab is currently supplying additional accommodation units to the Kepco site office and for an additional camp, according to a spokesperson for Gulf Prefab.

Established in 1976, Gulf Prefab is a subsidiary of Gulf General Investments Company (GGICO). Its factory occupies a 69,540-sq-m area in the Sharjah Industrial Area with easy road access to facilitate timely deliveries to any part of the UAE including ports for exports. The company caters to the market through a number of divisions. These include:

“Our resources and capabilities give us a reputation in the international market, and we export to GCC markets, Africa and Asia,” the spokesman says.

Its prefab division’s permanent solutions cover many applications such as residential villages, resorts, villas, hospitals, schools, hotels, cottages, mosques, as well as commercial and industrial buildings. Gulf Prefab’s temporary prefabricated houses (fire retardant and non-fire retardant) are suitable for many uses and applications such as labour camps, oilfield units (offices, staff accommodation and engineers/management housing with all facilities such as mosques with washrooms and ablutions section) as well as portable caravans for construction, industrial, logistics and warehousing locations.
