Algeria’s Chiali turned to formwork systems and expertise from Paschal of Germany to build a concrete water tank, achieving perfect curvatures.

Chiali Services, a subsidiary of the Algerian Chiali Group, has used Paschal formwork systems to construct a circular concrete water tank of 3,000-cu-m capacity.
TTR Trapezoidal girder and Modular universal formwork from the Germany-based Paschal were employed to build the tank, as part of the renovation of the fresh water system in the Algerian province of Chlef.
Formwork experts from Paschal’s headquarters in Steinach, Germany, accompanied their Algerian colleagues during the first formwork processes, so that subsequent formwork and concreting work could be coordinated independently by the Algerian formwork experts.
“Both companies have had a long-term and cooperative partnership since 2008, which has included regular training courses both on site and at Paschal’s headquarters. In this way, it is ensured that the product upgrades and optimisations for the formwork and shoring systems are put to the best possible use in Algeria,” says a spokesman for Paschal.
Elaborating on the project, he says the circular reinforced concrete base plate covers a surface area of 531 sq m. The circular reinforced concrete wall based on this plate rises up 7.5 m and is realised with a wall thickness of 40 cm with an interior diameter of 25 m.
For the formwork materials, Chiali Services used 310 sq m of the TTR circular formwork system, extended with 204 sq m of the Modular universal formwork system.
“Perfect circles are guaranteed with the TTR Trapezoidal girder formwork, which is why it is used all over the world, wherever circular reinforced concrete constructions are to be built. With this circular formwork system, perfect curvatures with any radius can be formed precisely, simply and quickly,” says the spokesman.
Furthermore, the Trapezoidal girder formwork can be continuously adjusted, for diameters of 2 to 5 m and from 5 m to an unlimited distance. It can be used both horizontally and vertically. With only 0.28 to 0.55 ties per sq m, it facilitates the speedy execution of work on site, he remarks.
Meanwhile, Modular universal formwork is a safe and fast alternative solution to conventional timber formwork. It can be found all over the world wherever adaptability and flexibility combined with easy handling are important. With the Modular formwork, anything from the smallest surface areas right up to large-scale applications of reinforced concrete structures can be realised without any problems, the spokesman points out.
“Element heights start at 62.5 cm and go up to 150 cm. Element widths range from 5 cm to 100 cm and give the user enormous flexibility, which is extended even further by the plastic filler elements,” he adds.
The TTR Trapezoidal girder and Modular universal formwork were among a host of solutions showcased by Paschal at the recent Saudi Build exhibition, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On a 40-sq-m booth, Paschal demonstrated the practical application options, the system diversity and the compatibility of the systems and components for quick and easy use in reinforced concrete construction.
Paschal is a sought-after partner for concrete projects worldwide, with customers in more than 40 countries and 50 years of experience. The company’s regional office – Paschal Concrete Forms – was set up in 1997 in Bahrain and has since become one of the leading suppliers of modern formwork solutions to the construction industry in the GCC.
Based at the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP) in Hidd, Paschal Concrete Forms has an assembling facility for Modular formwork and a stockyard in Bahrain.
