Genie names manager for region
Terex Corporation, a global manufacturer of lifting and material processing products, has announced that John Chandler is rejoining the Genie team where, based in the UK, he will take over as the strategic accounts and business development manager for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia (EMEAR) region.
The existing Genie UK and Ireland sales structure remains unchanged, said the company.
Reporting to Jacco de Kluijver, Genie vice-president sales and marketing for Emear, Terex AWP, in this newly created role Chandler is directly responsible for the development of some strategic Genie customer accounts. Working in close collaboration with Matt Skipworth, Genie senior manager service solutions, Terex AWP, he will also be responsible for supporting the development of the Genie Service Solutions (GSS) offering.
Al Kout set for Q1 launch
KuwaitI property developer Tamdeen Group has announced that Al Kout, the largest waterfront retail and entertainment destination in the country, has entered the final stages of construction.
Occupying a plot of 300,000 sq m, Al Kout project offers six diverse experiences reflecting the unique architectural heritage of Kuwait. The most modern of these experiences is Al Kout Mall, which is expected to open during the first quarter of 2018, said the developer.
The mall will increase the overall leasing area of Al Kout Project to 100,000 sq m, it stated.
The KD123-million ($407 million) Al Kout project comprises 360 stores and a 12-screen cinema, which is equipped with the latest Imax and 4DX systems and will be managed by Kuwait National Cinema Company (Cinescape).
Alba’s PS5 marks safety milestone
Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) Power Expansion Project - Power Station (PS) 5 and Power Distribution System (PDS) - celebrated an extraordinary record of three million work hours without lost time injury (LTI) as of end December 2017.
GE-Gama Consortium, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for PS 5 Project, achieved two million work hours without LTI, while Siemens, the EPC contractor for PDS, achieved one million hours without LTI.
Speaking on this occasion, Alba’s chief executive officer Tim Murray said: “This landmark achievement is a result of Alba’s ongoing commitment to the best safety standards.”
Oman eyes WTE project
Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has floated a tender seeking bids from consultancy firms to provide a techno-economic feasibility study for building the country’s first waste-to-energy (WTE) project, said a report.
The project, which is aimed at boosting the sultanate’s plans to diversify sources of electricity away from gas-fired power plants, is being built in co-ordination with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (Be’ah).
If the project is feasible, the winning consultant will also act as a technical advisor for preparing the tender document for selecting an independent producer through a competitive bidding process, reported the Times of Oman.
Airport upgrade by 2018-end
Bahrain is set to upgrade the air navigation system and instrument landing system (ILS) in a bid to improve standards and the flow of air traffic at the kingdom’s international airport.
Deputy King, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has issued a directive in this regard to the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, which will in future see Bahrain International Airport using the world’s latest landing technology, reported BNA.
It will significantly improve navigation and instrument landing services during times of low visibility, contributing to reduced flight delays and diversions, and improvements to the overall service offered from Bahrain International Airport.
The project will be completed by the year-end.
Aamal plans industrial projects
Aamal Company has announced that it will set up three new industrial projects, which will be the first of their kind in Qatar, through its subsidiary Senyar Industries Qatar Holding.
Aamal plans to develop a copper production facility; an aluminium production facility; and a drum production facility. Senyar Industries Qatar Holding will own 100 per cent of all three factories and is in the process of obtaining all the necessary approvals to start their construction, it added.
Senyar Copper Production Factory, which will produce copper wires, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019. Senyar Aluminum Production Factory, which will specialise in the production of aluminium bars, will be completed by 2019-end. Senyar Drum Production Factory will produce wooden and steel cable drums and is expected to be ready by the end of 2018.
