UAE-based Rexton Technologies has recently inaugurated the region’s largest light fittings manufacturing facility in Sharjah and says it is all set to lead the LED revolution in the Middle East.
The new LED facility, set up with a total investment of over Dh50 million ($13.6 million) in the Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF Zone), includes a fully integrated and advanced manufacturing unit over a 125,000-sq-ft area and a 3,000-sq-ft state-of-the-art testing lab that specialises in LED light fittings.
Rexton offers a complete range of LED solutions providing up to 50,000 hours of illumination.
In the first phase, Rexton’s LED plant will manufacture fast moving commercial items including LED panels, retrofit downlights, streetlights, weatherproof, batten fittings, lights and spotlights.
According to a spokesman for the company, the demand for LED technology in the GCC is expected to grow by 18 to 20 per cent annually, and especially in the UAE, where this demand is fuelled by the government’s smart lighting initiatives undertaken across all emirates.
“The increasing consumer demand for energy-efficient lighting systems, reduction in prices of LEDs and high penetration of LEDs as a light source are expected to drive the growth of this market,” he adds.
Rexton first invested in the manufacture of light fittings 13 years ago when it acquired Square Engineering, an Ajman-based manufacturing unit. The unit was transferred to a purpose-built factory in SAIF Zone in 2008.
With ultra-modern equipment and technology, Rexton is gearing up to provide local and global customers with highly customised lighting solutions for domestic, commercial, industrial and special application lighting. The manufacturing facility and lab will also provide an advanced testing facility for customers who wish to evaluate the quality of their LED products
“LED lighting technology is growing at a tremendous pace; this will drive LED manufacturers to come up with new and cost-effective solutions in the design and development of LED chips, LED drivers and other LED components,” says the spokesman.
The spokesman says the Internet of Things (IoT) has been called the next industrial revolution and will have a huge impact on the LED lighting industry, with lighting fixtures transforming the traditional LED lighting products. There is a shift from traditional LED products to controllable products that can be connected to the internet or with other networked devices.
“The lighting industry is transforming rapidly and the coming years will be a defining period in this sector as the focus moves from providing energy-saving products to offering complete digital solutions,” concludes the spokesman.
Rexton Technologies is a member of Kingston Holdings, a UAE-based diversified industrial group.
