DB Schenker picks Amana to build Dubai rooftop PV plant
UAE-based Amana Contracting and Steel Buildings, a leading regional turnkey contractor, says it has won a contract from DB Schenker, the supply chain division of German rail operator Deutsche Bahn, to build a 2.3MWp rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant at its warehouse in Dubai South.
As per the deal, Amana will carry out system design, authority approvals, procurement, construction, and testing and commissioning activities in line with the construction programme and will also be responsible for its operations once the building gets handed over.
The solar PV system will be composed of 7,000 high-efficiency 72-cell solar modules and other state-of-the-art proprietary components expected to generate 3,675 MWh of energy during its first year of operation and roughly 85,000 MWh throughout its lifetime.
The installation comes as part of Phase Two of DB Schenker’s 35,000-sq-m temperature-controlled warehouse, says the company. With this 2.3MWp installation, the plant targets to offset close to 100 per cent of the building’s power requirement and will be the first solar PV rooftop plant of its size whereby the solar system will be commissioned simultaneously with the building completion. The new warehouse boasts a 3,500-sq-m mezzanine area for value-added services, the largest investment in the history of DB Schenker Middle East & Africa, it states.
Since 2016, Amana’s solar department has successfully completed and connected several rooftop projects to the grid, thus making it the leading rooftop solar EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) company in the UAE. The Emirati turnkey contractor says it is proud to support DB Schenker’s renewable energy plans with this ‘exciting’ solar project.
Arabtec unit lands $42m Dubai sewerage contract
Arabtec, a leading construction company in the region, says one of its subsidiaries has secured a Dh155-million ($42 million) sewerage infrastructure contract from Dubai Municipality.
As per the deal, Arabtec Engineering Services (AES) will complete variation to its DS189 sewerage and drainage contract in the Al Khawaneej area of the emirate by the end of 2019.
On the contract win, group CEO Hamish Tyrwhitt says: “Consistent with our objective to diversify our business, this award builds on our infrastructure backlog and long-standing relationship with Dubai Municipality.”
Originally the drainage division of Arabtec Construction, AES opened its doors in 2007 as a specialist in engineering services related to infrastructure works.
Turkey’s Kolin wins $300m Aramco housing contract
Saudi Aramco, a global oil company, has awarded a $300-million housing construction project to Kolin, a leading Turkish company, a media report said.
Kolin will work on the project to provide 2,400 state-of-the-art villas for Saudi Aramco employees in the Eastern Province city of Dhahran, according to Middle East Business Intelligence.
The company will develop the South Dhahran Home Ownership Programme (SDHOP), known as “Ajyal”, which has been allocated a budget of $5.5 billion.
Kolin Construction has carried out a diverse range of projects involving the construction of roads, railways, metro, ports, housing, industrial facilities, and irrigation schemes and dams both in Turkey and abroad. It maintains activities over a large geographical footprint extending from Libya to Azerbaijan and Uganda to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Petrofac secures major Iraq EPC contract
Petrofac, a leading global provider of oilfield services, has been awarded a $370-million contract by Basra Oil Company (BOC) for the expansion of a central processing facility (CPF), located in the Majnoon Field, Southern Iraq.
Under the terms of the 34-month contract, the scope of work under the lump-sum engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project includes two oil processing trains, able to process 200 kbopd (thousand barrels of oil per day), says Petrofac.
The company was previously awarded a contract in 2011 and delivered engineering, procurement and construction management for the execution and completion of the existing CPF at Majnoon, it states.
Elie Lahoud, the group managing director (Engineering & Construction) for Iraq, Oman and Saudi Arabia, says: “Petrofac has developed a significant track record in Iraq with enhanced local delivery, successfully providing services both onshore and offshore since 2010.”
