Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) has awarded two contracts for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of all six lines of the Riyadh Metro network over 12 years including the mobilisation period.
Under the first contract, the Flow consortium will provide O&M services for lines 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the metro. Alstom, as a part of Flow consortium, has been awarded a contract worth more than €730 million ($848 million). A leading developer of markets systems, equipment and services for the transport sector, Alstom had partnered with Ansaldo Signalling and Transportation Systems (STS), an Italian transportation company and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, an Italian stated-owned company focusing on rail infrastructure, to form the Flow Consortium1 to bid for the O&M tender for Riyadh metro system.
The total value for the consortium comes to around SR10.9 billion ($2.9 billion), with the rolling stock and systems infrastructure maintenance representing more than €730 million, said the company.
Alstom’s scope of work within the consortium will include the full maintenance of the transit system, including trains provided by the French transport giant for Lines 4,5 and 6 and those provided for Line 3, as well as fixed installations such as tracks, signalling, communication, passenger information systems and power supply.
Under the second contract, Capital Metro Company (Camco), the joint venture between RATP Dev – a subsidiary of RATP Group – and Saudi Public Transport Company (Saptco), has been awarded the O&M contract for Lines 1 and 2.
The first metro line – Line 1 or the Blue line on the Al Olaya-Al-Batha corridor –covers 39 km and serves 25 stations. The second line – Line 2 or the Red line – runs along King Abdullah Road over a distance of 25 km and serves 15 stations.
Camco will provide a comprehensive range of O&M services, including metro operation, security, passenger assistance, facility management, maintenance of buildings (stations, park and rides, depots etc) and the complete transit system, including trains, signalling, telecommunication, power supply, passenger information, among others.
The contract, as set by ADA, carries a minimum Saudisation target of 45 per cent, as well as a minimum level of 55 per cent for local content in the areas of supplies and services related to the Riyadh Metro operation, in addition to on-the-ground logistic support.
In addition, Camco will introduce to the job market several types of positions for Saudis, both males and females, in various engineering specialties, in addition to a wide range of vocational positions.
