Scania, a leading provider of transport solutions, has launched a new and comprehensive truck range in the UAE that focuses on customer profitability, by providing customised transportation solutions for a better total operating economy. These trucks are designed for long-haulage, urban and construction (XT) applications.
The result of 10 years of development work and investments of over €2 billion ($2.28 billion), the new truck generation builds on the values, strategies, and innovations, which for the past 127 years have made the company an industry leader, the company says.
According to a company official, Scania is setting a new standard with the truck range for what is premium in the transport industry.
“Inspired by our core value of putting customers first, and responding to global trends and challenges, this generation of trucks is designed to better meet the needs of our customers and the world we live in. It has efficiency in both fuel economy and performance incorporated into a design inspired by the Scania heritage. Our new truck range will contribute to the ambitions of the UAE to become a sustainable nation, powered by smart technology solutions,” says Ozcan Barmoro, managing director of Scania Middle East.
He says the new truck generation aims to drive the evolution of the transportation industry in line with the ambitions of the UAE National Agenda 2021.
Loaded with enhancements, the new truck range further improves Scania’s already strong fuel performance due to factors such as improved powertrains and better aerodynamics. Another notable feature is the availability and offering of 24 different cab models. With the driver’s safety at the forefront of Scania’s goals, the new truck range also provides the world’s first rollover side curtain airbag, he says.
According to Thani Al Shirawi, CEO of Al Shirawi, distributor for Scania in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Scania’s trucks are popular in Dubai and the Northern Emirates due to their robustness and reliability, as well as the sales and aftersales service support extended 24x7 by Al Shirawi’s highly competent factory-trained team.
He says: “The trucks enable customers to experience value of the advanced design and quality which is built ‘for the only business that matters, yours’. With the arrival of the new truck generation, Scania offers tailor-made, better solutions than ever before which is a result of a deeper understanding of our customers’ businesses. We welcome the new range of Scania trucks and are anticipating a strongly positive response from our customers.”
On his part, Moeen Bin Brook, CEO of Bin Brook Motors and Equipment, distributor for Scania in Abu Dhabi, says: “Scania products are designed for different customer applications, keeping in mind the total operating economy. For us in the region, especially with the new Scania XT, Scania’s focus on tailor-made solutions for each application will increase uptime and the earning capacity of the construction segment which has to cope with tough challenges.”
Scania says it has been at the forefront of the region’s transport sector for more than four decades providing outstanding fuel-efficient and optimised vehicles, fully customised and adapted to the requirements and operating conditions of the Middle East.
In 2017, it delivered 82,500 trucks, 8,300 buses as well as 8,500 industrial and marine engines to customers worldwide. It recorded net sales of nearly SEK120 billion ($13.32 billion), of which 20 per cent were services-related.
Founded in 1891, Scania operates in more than 100 countries and employs some 49,300 people. Research and development is concentrated in Sweden, with branches in Brazil and India, while production takes place in Europe, Latin America and Asia, along with regional production centres in Africa, Asia and Eurasia.
