Hill International, a global leader in managing construction risk, said it has been selected to provide project management and construction management services for the expansion of Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha, Qatar.
The scope of work includes expansion of the existing passenger terminal complex, setting up of additional e-gates and a remote transfer baggage facility besides new duty-free and passenger amenity areas, lounges and hotel fit-outs, additional taxiways and stands and aprons. The project will also involve building of new and expanded fuel farms, support facilities, and associated infrastructure.
According to the Hamad International Airport Expansion Project Steering Committee, the project will increase the capacity of the airport to handle more than 53 million passengers annually.
Positioned at the edge of the Arabian Gulf, HIA includes two runways, a state-of-the-art air traffic control tower, maintenance hangars, a cargo terminal, a catering facility, an Emiri terminal, and a 40,000-sq-m passenger terminal that features combined retail, food, and beverage facilities, among other amenities and support.
On the contract win, Abdo Kardous, PE, regional president, Middle East, said: “Hill International has long been a go-to firm for providing project and construction management services for major projects in the aviation sector, as this project award reaffirms.”
“As HIA continues ascending in international importance, we look forward to providing the expertise and responsiveness needed to meet our client’s requirements,” he added.
Earlier last month, Hill International also announced that it has been signed up by Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company (QIMC) to provide project management services for the construction of its Abraj Al Tahwiliya (QIMC Tower West Bay Project).
Designed as the centerpiece of the West Bay, the three mixed-use, high-rise towers will house a luxury five-star hotel and residences, office and commercial spaces, five levels of retail area, and four basement levels of parking and back-of-house services.
The project also includes adjacent areas set aside for landscaping and other improvements. The development totals 120,000 sq m, with the tallest of the project’s towers topping out at 185 m.
The QIMC’s projects have traditionally involved industrial facilities, but the company recognised the potential of the site in the corniche area of the West Bay. QIMC will also locate its new headquarters in the Abraj Al Tahwiliya.
To support the project, Hill International will provide construction management, contracts administration, project controls, document control, quality assurance/quality support support, and other project management services.
