Genies keep Dubai destination shipshape

Genie boom lifts are proving quiet, emissions-free performers at Dubai Parks and Resorts, helping in diverse tasks ranging from general maintenance to servicing rides and installing decor and lighting for shows.

Genie boom lifts have been successfully assisting in performing a wide variety of maintenance tasks at Dubai Parks and Resorts (DPR), the largest leisure destination in the Middle East.

Opened to the public in 2016, the integrated resort destination is home to three world-class theme parks and one water park, as well as Riverland Dubai, the grand entrance plaza, and a Polynesian-themed family resort, all covering an area of more than 325,000 sq m.

Because of its nature, the development requires equipment capable of working at height, while at the same time respecting the environment.

Seeking a customised solution, three years ago, Al Masaood Trucks and Equipment, one of the resort’s key equipment providers, turned to Al Mahroos, the authorised Genie distributor in Dubai.

They recommended the Genie Z-60/37DC boom lift – three units of which have been giving their owners full satisfaction for the past two-and-a-half years.

“From general maintenance to servicing rides and installing decor and lighting for shows, the Genie Z-60/37 DC boom lift is an extremely versatile and productive access solution. It has proved to be a better adapted and more cost-efficient alternative than using several diesel and electric-powered machines to do the job,” says Nishad Abdulla, assistant manager, transport, Dubai Parks and Resorts.

“Its narrow footprint, 4WD drive capabilities and all-terrain, non-marking tyres are ideal for work outdoors on rough ground or indoors on fragile surfaces where space is limited. In addition, with the facility being open to the public, quiet, emissions-free operation is an absolute ‘must have’ that means that we can operate them at any time without disturbing our visitors. For us, this model definitely ticks all the right boxes,” he says.

The Genie Z-60/37 DC boom is claimed to provide more performance in a compact unit than any other 20-m 100-per-cent electric-powered mobile elevating work platform on the market.

Combining the benefits of quiet, emissions-free operation with the 4WD performance of traditional diesel-powered units, this model offers a platform height of 18 m, a horizontal outreach of 11.15 m and an up-and-over clearance of 7.4 m.

Purpose-built for indoor and outdoor applications, its environment-friendly capabilities allow operators to perform a full workday shift on a single overnight battery charge. Weighing just 7,530 kg, its reduced weight enables this model to work in places inaccessible to other similar electric-powered alternatives.

Increasing productivity and rental returns on investment, the Genie Z-60-37 DC’s key features also provide operators the ability to work faster. It features a full-height drive function, and the Genie FastMast system that enables the boom to be moved from full height to below grade and back with just one boom function. Its dual parallelogram linkage design also enables operators to track verticals by simply raising or lowering the secondary boom, without stopping to reposition the machine.

John Mathew, manager of M H Al Mahroos Trading, says the company is proud to see machines that it has supplied being used in iconic locations like DPR.

He says: “Our experience with DPR has been great from the time of negotiations to date. As an authorised Genie service provider in the UAE, we conduct scheduled visits based on maintenance contracts to ensure that equipment is kept in prime condition at all times. Since the machines have been in operation, we haven’t experienced a hitch.”

Genie-Terex territory sales manager Johan Gericke says: “Genie is committed to providing the best access solutions in the market and our collaboration with M H Al Mahroos Trading has strengthened this stance. This includes delivering quality products, as well as seeing that our customers are backed by tailored maintenance solutions to ensure that they get the best out of their machines.”

But this is not all. “Our machines have been used for indoor and outdoor maintenance on various areas of DPR, among which are Bollywood Park, Riverland and Legoland. Their compact footprint has also come in very handy for tasks such as fixing stages for shows, installing lighting and filming equipment, or outdoors for the maintenance of rides,” adds Gericke.

He concludes: “When customers like Nishad welcome us with no complaints whatsoever, it reassures us that we are doing it right!”
