Bobcat, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction equipment and a part of Korean group Doosan, has expanded the company’s road products portfolio with the launch of the new Bobcat soil and asphalt spreader attachment.
The move is aimed at meeting the surge in demand for road construction and maintenance equipment in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
The new soil and asphalt spreader attachment is approved for use on all the Bobcat skid-steer loaders from and including the S450 to the S850/H models, all Bobcat compact track loaders including the T450, T590/H, T650/H, T770/H and T870/H models and the A770/H all-wheel steer loader, says the company.
Designed to save time and labour costs, the Bobcat soil and asphalt spreader can be used to lay asphalt and other materials to create pavements; to widen and repair existing roads; to backfill, pave over and cover trenches and to lay sub-base materials.
The new soil and asphalt spreader attachment allows for manually adjustable thicknesses of layer materials from 0-100 mm and features hydraulic side shift and adjustable side wings to guide materials.
Other highlights include an offset feature to avoid passing over laid asphalt, enabling a smoother finish; a lockable, floating transverse tilt up to five degrees to compensate for sloping terrain; and an optional third side wing kit available for special applications.
“Thanks to its offset feature, the new attachment can also lay asphalt without the loader needing to pass over the spread material – thus ensuring an unblemished and smoother finish,” explains a spokesman for Bobcat.
The spreader is easy to use, clean and maintain, with a simple design that is key to the low maintenance requirements for the attachment, increasing uptime, consistency and providing more time on the job. The new attachment also provides comfort and productivity with a relatively low weight for transport purposes and maximum effiiciency due to a much more compact design compared to that of larger, dedicated machines for spreading soil or asphalt.
The new soil and asphalt spreader has an operating weight of 675 kg and a standard operating width of 190 cm or optional width of 196 cm, says Bobcat.
Mounted on Bobcat compact loaders, the new attachment works with an average working speed of 50-120 m/min, requiring an oil flow of 45 l/min and an operating pressure of 250 bar, it adds.
The E10e mini-excavator
Meanwhile, Bobcat recently launched its new E10e mini-excavator, claimed to be the world’s first battery-powered machine of its type in the one-tonne and below category.
The range of applications for this type of excavator is wide – although it is primarily intended for demolition indoors. It is ideal for many other areas where zero emission and low noise machines are required. Examples include construction and refurbishment in city centres, night work or meeting the requirements for work in low-noise locations such as schools, hospitals, shopping centres, according to Bobcat.
The Bobcat E10e is the world’s first battery-powered one tonne mini-excavator that combines zero emissions, low noise and a width of just 71 cm, allowing it to easily drive through doors or to lift the machine.
The excavator is equipped with a modern lithium-ion maintenance-free battery with an advanced control system that is designed to fit the size of a standard machine and maintain zero ZTS overlap.
The Bobcat E10e can work for up to five hours on a single charge depending on the application. With the optional external 400 V quick charger, the battery can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in less than two hours. This allows the E10e to work throughout the working day when used with normal breaks. The battery can also be fully charged overnight with an integrated 230 V mains charger.
Róbert Husár, Doosan Bobcat EMEA Director for the mini-excavator product line, says: “The E10e is only the beginning of our efforts to expand our portfolio of alternative-drive machines. In the future, customers will also be able to look forward to high-end innovations, as well as other product lines, such as skid-steer loaders and track loaders.”
The E10e battery-powered model is built on the same platform and produced on exactly the same production line as the highly successful E10z diesel engine powered mini-excavator, over 11,000 of which have been produced so far.
This line currently has a capacity of 2,000 machines per year and can produce diesel and battery-powered models as required by current market demand.
