Arabtec unit secures Saudi offshore marine works deal

Arabtec Holding, a leading Dubai-based contractor, says one of its subsidiaries, Target Engineering Construction Company, has won a 14-month sub-contract for the offshore marine works in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The SR145 million ($38.6 million) deal for the Jubail-3A Independent Water Project site was awarded by Shandong Tiejun Electric Power Engineering Company.

This is Target’s second contract win within two months. It had in September clinched a Dh403.8-million ($110 million) contract from Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operations (Adnoc Onshore) for its key facility at Jebel Dhanna in Abu Dhabi.

Under the 20-month contract, Target will be providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for crude receiving facilities at the Jebel Dhanna Terminal to import Upper Zakum and non-system crude and transfer it to the Ruwais Refinery West.

Siemens Energy wins Dubai power, water station upgrade job

SIEMENS Energy has announced that it has won a contract from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) for the upgradation and expansion of services at Jebel Ali L2 power and water station in Dubai.

Under terms of the new long-term service agreement, Siemens Energy will supply an intelligent controller for each of the four SGT5-4000F gas turbines, the latest SPPA-T3000 control system, services for generators, as well as added upgrades for outage reduction and operational flexibility.

The intelligent controller was co-developed by Dewa and Siemens Energy in 2019 and was the world’s first thermodynamic Digital Twin Gas Turbine (GT) Intelligent Controller. The controller uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to systematically give power plant operators a complete and continuous overview and scenario-based assessment of power plant operations.

The new services package from Siemens Energy includes the latest advancements in power plant service, maintenance, and controls. Developed and manufactured by the global energy giant, the upgraded SPPA-T3000 control system features online patch update capabilities which enables continuous, safe plant operations during the update as it doesn’t require system shutdown.

Siemens Energy says by having all equipment running on one control system, it enhances planning for maintenance services and management of spare parts.

National Marine Dredging seeks investors’ nod for NPCC merger

UAE-based National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) has announced that its board has voted to recommend to its shareholders the offer from General Holding Corporation (Senaat), a part of ADQ, and other minority shareholders of National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) for its merger with the company.

A leading contractor in the region for dredging, land reclamation and marine civil construction, NMDC provides engineering, procurement and construction solutions to both the offshore and onshore oil and gas sectors.

The board’s recommendation comes after a valuation assessment of the two companies by KPMG. Following consideration by the directors of NMDC, the terms of the transaction were approved by the board at its meeting last month.

In approving the terms, the NMDC board has, amongst other things, reviewed the vendor legal due diligence report on NPCC prepared by Allen & Overy and a valuation report and financial due diligence report on the company prepared by KPMG.

NMDC said its board fully backs the proposal as it believes the transaction was beneficial for shareholders, as well as its wider stakeholders. If the deal goes through, the combination of NMDC and NPCC will create one of the leading integrated oil and gas and marine services EPC players, with an established footprint across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) and South Asia regions.

Empower awards Zabeel cooling plant contract

UAE-based Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) says it has awarded a contract worth Dh164 million ($45 million) for the construction of its new district cooling plant in Zabeel, one of the vital districts in Dubai.

The move comes following the completion of shoring and enabling work at the plant site and is in line with Empower’s plan to provide its services to the large and multi-use, existing and under-construction projects in the Zabeel area.

With a cooling capacity of 50,000 refrigeration tons (RT), the new plant will be interconnected with Empower’s existing district cooling plant at Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC) to deliver a total cooling energy of 112,000 RT.

Phase One of the Zabeel district cooling plant project will be completed by the first half of 2021.

CEO Ahmad bin Shafar says this is the second contract that Empower had signed within two months for building new district cooling plants.
