Sakan to build 5,000 homes

SAUDI ARABIA’S National Developmental Housing Corporation (Sakan) has signed an agreement worth SR1.62 billion ($432 million) with Al Birr Charitable Society to build 5,000 new homes for the needy families in the Riyadh region.

The agreement aims to provide housing support to citizens and improve family quality of life in line with Saudi Vision 2030, reported Arab News citing Acting Riyadh Governor Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz said.

Aramco deal for Taqa

ABU DHABI National Energy Company (Taqa), along with Marubeni Corporation, announced a partnership to develop a greenfield cogeneration power and water desalination project in Saudi Arabia with the world’s largest integrated oil and gas company, Saudi Aramco.

The Tanajib Cogeneration and Desalination Project will have a net capacity of 940 MW of power generation, 1,084 tonnes per hour of steam and 5.25 million gallons per day (mgpd) of desalinated water gross capacity (net capacity: 4.3 mgpd).

The agreement for a landmark greenfield industrial facility also covers the development of supporting infrastructure including pipelines to connect the desalination and cogeneration plants to end users. including pipelines to connect the desalination and cogeneration plants to end users, said a statement.

A special-purpose vehicle has been created to develop the plants with Taqa and Marubeni holding a 60 per cent stake and Saudi Aramco with 40 per cent. Taqa and Marubeni will operate the plants for 20 years on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis.

Funding for Jubail-3B IWP

SAUDI Water Partnerships Company (SWPC) has announced the financial close for its Jubail-3B Independent Water Plant (IWP) with the participation of its partners from authorities such as the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, developers and consultants.

The project, which is estimated to cost SR2.6 billion ($692 million), will be implemented on a build, own, operate (BOO) model by the private sector for a period of 25 years from the launch of commercial operations in 2024.

The plant will produce 570,000 cu m per day of potable water through reverse osmosis technology to supply the Riyadh and Qassim regions. It will also include a 60MWp capacity solar photovoltaic (PV) facility – the largest in-house solar capability for a desalination plant in the kingdom.
