Haver sun protection mesh wins accolades

01 December 2021

Germany-based Haver & Boecker’s sun protection mesh Largo-Twist 2045 has received two accolades in the recently held International Iconic Awards 2021: Innovative Architecture.

The jury of the awards selected Haver Architectural Mesh Largo-Twist 2045  as the winner in the “Products - Facades” category as well as in the “Innovative Material” category, which focuses on sustainable, energy-efficient and functional materials that are versatile in terms of design, says the leading wire weaving company.

“The Largo-Twist 2045 wire mesh, developed especially for solar shading, is characterised by its tilted horizontal flat wires, which provide good solar or visual protection depending on the orientation,” says a spokesman for the company. “Installed over a large area on the building structure, the solar protection mesh creates a particularly homogeneous appearance with low transparency but good visibility from the inside to the outside.”

In addition to its visual characteristics, the stainless steel mesh Largo-Twist 2045 also has good sun shading values: with a sunlight incidence angle of 60 degrees and double glazing, the mesh with its tilted horizontal flat wires, reduces the energy input by more than 90 per cent, he says.

In combination with sun protection glazing, a g-value of 0.02 can be achieved. By comparison, most of the used Haver architectural meshes achieve with the same requirements g-values between 0.1 and 0.18.

Efficient shading does not mean dark interiors: the mesh provides good transparency for views to the outside, he says.

The stainless steel material weight: 5.5 kg/sq m. Specially designed for sun protection, the wire mesh is characterised by its tilted horizontal flat wires. Depending on the orientation, it acts as a good sun or privacy screen.

Iconic Awards: Innovative Architecture, the internationally renowned, neutral design and architecture competition recognise the best achievements in architecture, interior design, product design and brand communication. Each year, the German Design Council selects designers, planners, developers and companies that stand out with their innovative work. The award ceremony was held on October 11 at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.

Headquartered in the Westphalian town of Oelde in Germany where its Wire Weaving and Machinery Divisions are located, Haver & Boecker offers mesh related solutions for filtration, screening, particle size analysis and architecture.

Due to the functional and aesthetic characteristics of Haver Architectural Mesh, it offers new and versatile fields of applications in architecture.   Architectural mesh as a semi-transparent outer skin with excellent technical properties combines outstanding design with a high functional benefit. It transforms the appearance of the exterior façade, creating a building with a distinctive character. This apart, it facilitates individual façade designs, natural ventilation, sun protection, fall protection.

The architectural mesh can be tensioned over the full height of this building. This reduces costs dramatically compared to other materials such as perforated plate or expanded metal, the spokesman says. A substructure is only required at the top and the bottom mounting points. The different levels of your building require an intermediate fixing that can be designed for significantly lower horizontal loads, he adds.

“Architectural mesh made of stainless steel has excellent reflection properties because of its structure and material. Pairing the façade with lighting elements will transform its appearance from day to night,” the spokesman states.

Haver’s architectural mesh has been installed at DIFC (Access Node and Boomerang) and Dubai Hills Parking Garage, both in Dubai and at Al Naeem Mall, Ras Al Khaimah, among other projects.
