Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz has launched the infrastructure works and unveiled the masterplan for the Rua Al Madinah Project, a mega mixed-use development located to the east of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, according to a report.
The project is being developed and implemented by Rua Al Madinah Holding Company, a PIF company that specialises in development, operation, and real estate investment in Madinah, said the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) report.
Prince Mohammed, who is also Chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs and Chairman of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), stated that the Rua Al Madinah Project will boost Madinah’s capacity to hosted 30 million Umrah pilgrims by 2030 and will be implemented to the highest international standards.
The project will involve redeveloping an area of 1.5 million sq m and adding more than 47,000 hotel rooms by 2030. The project’s masterplan dedicates as much as 83,000 sq m to green areas, which comprise 63 per cent of the project’s total land area, the report stated.
The project offers integrated transportation solutions, including nine bus stops, a metro station, tracks for self-driving vehicles and underground parking to facilitate access to the Prophet’s Mosque and will support both residential and commercial activity.
The project aims to elevate the city’s status as a modern Islamic and cultural destination for pilgrims and will feature modern urban planning and large-scale development projects that will boost the quality of life of Madinah’s residents and visitors, the report added.
