Limak lands $765m Kuwait airport contract

01 October 2023

Leading Turkish construction major Limak has secured a KD236 million ($764.87 million) project from the government of Kuwait to build a part of a new terminal at Kuwait International Airport, reported Reuters.

As per the contract, the Turkish company will build a package of aircraft parking aprons, taxiways and service buildings, it stated, citing the Kuwaiti official gazette.

Once the $4.34-billion new airport terminal gets operational, it is expected to triple the capacity of Kuwait’s airport.

Limak had earlier said that the first stage of the new terminal will be built with a capacity of 13 million passengers and (with) further improvement later it can be expanded up to 25 million.

Kuwait’s civil aviation ministry had in July sought bids from six prequalified companies for the operation, maintenance and development of the international airport, including T2 and its affiliated aircraft aprons, reported Kuna. These included GMR Airports (India), Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide and Munich Airport International (Germany), Incheon International Airport Corporation (South Korea), TAV Airport Holding (Türkiye) and Daa International (Ireland).
