The Foundation Equipment Division of Bauer - which is based in Schrobenhausen, Germany - is poised to become an independent company within the Bauer Group this year.
''This will enable the company to concentrate even more strongly on development and manufacture as well as marketing and sale of plant and equipment for the specialist foundation engineering sector,'' says a spokesman for Bauer. ''Due to its close ties with the construction activities of Bauer Spezialtiefbau, the technology transfer - invaluable for the development of plant and machinery - will also continue unabated.
Bauer's Foundation Equipment Division currently employs a total of 750 staff worldwide.
Meanwhile, Bauer Spezialtiefbau has undertaken a number of projects in the Middle East over the past year. Among them is a large foundation contract in Egypt, it implemented in cooperation with its Egyptian sister company.
The San Stefano Complex, which comprises a business centre with leisure facilities, hotels, shops, restaurants and offices, is being constructed at the Corniche of Alexandria. The 400,000 sq m combined floor space spread over two tower blocks covers 28 storeys and four basement levels. The 18 m deep excavation, which covered the entire plan area of the San Stefano Complex of 28,000 sq m, was retained by a diaphragm wall totalling 25,000 sq m tied back by heavy-duty anchors with up to 125-tonne carrying capacity. The two tower blocks are founded on 400 large diameter bored piles of 1500 mm diameter and 500 barretts at a depth of 38 m.
