Dublin to host GRCA congress this may

A comprehensive range of current topics regarding the development, production technology and use of GRC will be discussed at the 12th GRCA International Congress, GRC 2001, from May 14 to 15 in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.

The congress will be held at the Clontarf Castle Hotel and Conference Centre, a 12th century castle, which has been recently refurbished.

The congress will be opened by Glyn Jones, UK chairman of the GRCA.

The following topics will be discussed at the congress:

  • Engineering and product development: including development of mass process industry products, the use of sophisticated computer analysis in GRC product development, analysis of novel GRC structures and new product development;

  • GRC research: covering studies of reinforcement efficiency with regard to modelling durability, optimising reinforcement and improvement in performance through matrix modification;

  • GRC production technology: with topics encompassing improving the efficiency of production, rubber moulding technology, and new production techniques;

  • GRC and renders: with a focus on the use of textile reinforcement to strengthen concrete elements, testing and numeric modelling of fibrous concrete, comparisons of glass, polypropylene and steel fibres on the physical properties of concrete and crack-resistant rendering for expanded metal lath;

  • A look at GRC worldwide: which will discuss applications and projects from around the world, developments in the artistic use of GRC, and historical reviews of the material in different countries; and

  • GRC and the market: covering topics on introducing the product to new specifiers, opportunities in civil engineering, electronic marketing, and the GRCA and market development.

    A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the RIBA-approved (Royal Institute of British Architects) seminar on continuing professional development for architects entitled 'GRC Cladding and Mouldings', followed by a video show on stud frame cladding produced by the Prestressed/Precast Concrete Institute of the US, with support from the GRCA.
