Scania-powered sets for floating dock

01 JULY 2001

Dubai-based Scania distributor has delivered three Scania-powered Cymasa generating sets to Abu Dhabi company Adyard.

The units, the first generating sets from Spanish manufacturer Cymasa, have been delivered by Al Shirawi Enterprises to offshore platform and barge fabricator Adyard in Abu Dhabi.

The Scania-powered range offered by Al Shirawi, rated between 160 and 500 kVA, are available as standard bed frame-mounted static units or canopy-enclosed for both baseload and standby power applications.

Two DC14 powered sets each rated at 375 kVA have been installed in a floating dock application. Totally refitted with the twin Scania-powered sets to provide prime power requirements, the floating dock was recently converted from a flat-top barge.

Capable of working on vessels weighing up to 3,000 tonnes, the dock is approximately 110 m long and 25 m wide. The dock will be berthed at Adyard's fabrication yard in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi.

Adyard's parent Nico International has also taken delivery of the third unit, a Scania DC12 powered set rated at 375 kVA.

Housed in an acoustic enclosure, the unit has been transferred from Mussafah for waterside crane duties at Nico's Dubai port operations.
