Bahrain has signed a contract with Six Construct-Haji Hassan Group for the construction of a BD14.5 million ($40.05 million) bridge linking Manama and Muharraq.
Work on the project started on August 1. The consultant is Hyder Consulting Middle East.
The bridge is part of a massive project, expected to cost BD40 million, and includes the construction of a causeway, connecting roads and reclamation.
Bahrain's Works Minister Fahmi Al Jowder said it is one of the ministry's most important current projects.
"It will be a link between Manama and Hidd and Muharraq in general and will reduce the pressure on some very busy parts of Bahrain," he said.
The bridge is 404 m in length and the entire causeway is 6.4 km. The bridge will be designed to allow boats to pass underneath it. It will also allow the Electricity and Water Ministry to install cables and water pipes within it.
