Hong Kong's Civil Engineering Department awarded contracts worth HK$2.08 billion ($266.7 million) last month to the China State Construction Engineering Corp. (CSCEC) for Phase-One work on Disney's new theme park.
The park is estimated to cost a total of $1.8 billion to complete, according to Reuters news agency, and Phase One is scheduled to open in 2005.
Lau Ching-kwong, director of the Civil Engineering Department, said the contractor will build roads, a sewage system, pumping stations, water supply systems, an artificial lake and reclaim land north of the park.
CSCEC, a Beijing-based construction conglomerate owned by China's State Council, will also plant more than seven million trees and plants.
