Bids invited for Fujairah plant ops

01 JUNE 2002

Requests for proposals have been invited for the operation and maintenance of the Fujairah Water and Power Plant (FWPP) in the UAE.

A notification issued by the UAE Offsets Group/Union Water and Electricity Company (UOG/UWEC) said the plant at Qidfa was designed to produce 100 million gallons per day (mgpd) of desalinated water (62.5 per cent multi-stage flash and 37.5 per cent reverse osmosis) and generate 656 MW (500 MW net export).

The contract may also include operation and maintenance of the 180-km twin 64-inch pipeline from Fujairah to Al Ain/Sweihan in Abu Dhabi.

A prospective contractor should have already operated and maintained (either as owner or as contractor) a desalinated water production plant using MSF and RO technology with a capacity of not less than 40 mgpd and power generation capacity of not less than 300 MW.

Bidders for the pipeline contract should have operated and maintained a pipeline at least 50 km long with a throughput of more than 40 mgpd.
